About Kilted Camel
G’day, I'm Jeff, the solo developer behind Kilted Camel Games. I started Kilted Camel in 2014 when I decided to make a game as a project for a course I was studying. This game was Defend the Highlands, and went on to become my first published game. I had such a blast making it that I decided to go ahead and make another, and thus my journey began.
As anyone whose played my games (or heard my jokes) will attest, I'm a bit of a weirdo. I'm not sure why, but I have a fixation on camels and anything Scottish, hence the name Kilted Camel. Somewhere shrouded in the mists of my childhood I came up with the character Alfredo the Scotsman, who featured in just about every short story I wrote in school, and now stars in every game I've made to date.
My interest in games goes back to Christmas of '97 (Don’t I sound old saying it like that?) when my brother and I received a Super Nintendo. I quickly became obsessed. Only at the order of my mother would I stop playing, only to do the next best thing: drawing up my own level designs for my favorite games. Fortunately since then I've managed to get a bit more balance in my life. When I'm not gaming or game-developing you'll find me down the beach or pool swimming, riding bikes or hiking with my husband, working out in my garage, digging in the garden or working on my family's avocado farm.
Some of the games that have left a lasting impression on me over the years include Donkey Kong Country 2, Earthworm Jim 2, and Doom (my first three games on the Super Nintendo), Yoshi's Island, Age of Empires 2 (I still follow the tournaments to this day), The Pokemon games (Gen wunner alert), Road Rash, Jak 2 & 3, and the Total War Series.
As a solo developer, I know I'll never make games as intricate and shiny as the bigger studios. Instead my philosophy is to create simple, solid gameplay that allows for emergent complexity. Like chess, my games are easy to learn, but challenging to master. Layer onto that generous dose of good-natured shit-stirring and you've got a Kilted Camel Game.
